Let's go back to the analogy
of expanding balloon.
When we blow a balloon, the balloon expands. In this case, we use air to push
the balloon to expand. Now,
let us consider our
universe. According to the Big Bang theory, our universe is expanding. What makes it
expands? What 'blows' our universe apart, or pushing it away, making it expands
as we speak? The answer is the ‘dark energy’. Dark energy
acts like air
that we blow
into balloon making it expand. What occupies the space between objects in
our universe? The
answer is nothing and this ‘nothingness’ is called dark energy. In short, dark
energy is the energy of nothing.
If our universe is similar to a balloon
and it expands, then what is it expanding into? It is what
some theoretical physicist called the ‘hyperspace’. Hyperspace is
a dimension beyond what we can see and touch. Citing precious words from a
famous physicist, Michio Kaku :
"The universe is a symphony of the
strings, and the mind of God that Einstein eloquently wrote about for thirty
years would be cosmic music resonating throughout eleven-dimensional
hyperspace"
