Because we sometimes know they ask,not because they want to know.
They ask,because they want to start a conversation and perhaps,actually i think,it's an opening for them,because they have something to talk,or a closing,because they don't really have anything to talk.
Or perhaps when they are eating,they say "jemput makan".But they don't really want us to join.Just a figure of speech.
